It was the first day, on the Upper East Side (UES), and I was afraid to roll Barbara into place. I hadn't faced that on the Lower East Side. It was as though I had an unpleasant date with destiny.
In prison, I learned to respect my fear. At its signal, I leaned to lean into it, slow down and move, only, when absolutely necessary. On this day, I stopped. And, only by some chance encounter--described, below, in an excerpt, from Barbara's Upper East Side Journal--did I continue:
At that moment, a man passed by and asked, "Is that a part of the Armory Show?'"I answered, "No, it's not a part of it. It's going outside." He replied, "It should be a part of it. It's beautiful. Well done." With that, I pushed Barbara across Park Avenue, up onto the sidewalk and secured her into place.
