Barbara begins her third week, tomorrow, on the east side of Norfolk Street, between Delancey and Rivington.

Last Sunday, an eight year old boy, after having been inside Barbara with his sister and brother for half-an-hour, emerged and asked, “Do you do birthdays?”  I said, “No.”  “Where are you going to be next, then?”  I told him that his father, who was there, could find that out for him.

What about the boy’s question?  How should I take it?  A serious art project for children’s birthdays?  In the final analysis, I’m most pleased when I’m told that Barbara is humorous.  The boy’s question said that and more.
